Hi I have a calculation item in discoverer report. It is a custom one which returns a static value based on the grade of the person the code is Code (SQL): decode(emp_grade,'Senior Executive',2334,'Manager',999,0) The above decode statement is used in the calculation item. When i tried to create a total for this, it just displays 0. Later i came to know that totals for calculation items work differently. Now my how can i insert a total for this calculation item. vamsi

Hi If this calculation appears as another column in your report output, you can use sum on that column.

Hi kirti Yes this is another column in my report. but when i use sum(this calc) it displays 0, instead of the sum. vamsi

Hi if my understanding is correct you have say n columns in your workbook. And you have this n+1 th column as the calculation column. At the end of this sheet, you want the sum to appear for this calculation column as well. Right? If my understanding is right, you need to use CELL SUM instead of SUM. That should display a total of all the values in the calculation column.

Hi When you create the totals in Discoverer, you can select one of two functions to calculate the sum of a column or row that contains a calculation. Sum is the default total type. You can change this or create a new cell sum by going to tools->Totals->SUM or CELL SUM. You can find the documentation in the link below. http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/html/B13915_04/totals.htm#i1024563

oh.. i don't know then. I am using discoverer plus 10g. I don't think CELL SUM was available in 4.1.3 but i am not sure.
