Hi Everyone at Club-Oracle.com. It has been some time since the site went live and the objective we had of forming an Oracle community willing to learn from each other is somewhat initialized. I say initialized because even though we have had over 3000 visitors over the past one month not many have participated except our core group. We discussed many ideas to grow the community and ideas flew thick and fast! The gist of the discussion centered around two points, paying people to share their expertise or awarding those who do. Like it or not, I am quite an idealist... so I was against paying cash to people to share, so finally we all agreed on a model that we hope will create an atmosphere to learn.. share... discuss and grow! Presenting to you all the first Project at Club-Oracle.com! Project SLG: --- Share, Learn and Grow! The Project : Contribute 50 Posts (at least 10 threads) in the eligible Categories, sharing your experience, knowledge or even Questions!!! following the rules. The Timeline : Simple, One Month beginning from 7th October Midnight EDT to 7th November Midnight EDT. The Prize : Learning from like minded people! Ok Ok, I am kidding. OROR As a prize, for the user who gets to 50 Posts (with at least 10 new threads) first, we offer one of the above book choice. *EDIT* Owing to Popular Demand, i am changing the Book to... 1. Expert Oracle Database Architecture: 9i and 10g Programming Techniques and Solutions by Thomas Kyte : Amazon Review : This is a defining book on the Oracle database for any developer or DBA who works with Oracle-driven database applications. Tom has a simple philosophy: you can treat Oracle as a black box and just stick data into it or you can understand how it works and exploit it as a powerful computing environment. If you choose the latter, then you will find that there are few information management problems that you cannot solve quickly and elegantly. User Review : I've read Tom's books before, and always enjoyed them. But his new APress title really stands out as an achievement. Page after page and chapter after chapter he uses straightforward examples pasted right from the SQL*Plus prompt to illustrate, demonstrate, and illuminate concepts that he is explaining. It is this practical hands on, relentless approach that makes this book 700 pages of goodness. 2. Oracle E-Business Suite Financials Handbook Amazon Review : Deploying Oracle applications in any organization is an enormous task, and Oracle Financials Handbook should be considered prerequisite reading for any technical or business process specialist involved in such a project. The applications provide core business processes based on Oracle Corporation's database architecture, and the book discusses some of the most popular applications in the suite. Officially endorsed by Oracle Corporation, this detailed resource from Oracle Press explains how to maximize the centralized planning, accounting, treasury, purchasing, and management features of Oracle Financials--and revolutionize your company's finance infrastructure. User Review : This book is has just the right mix of Application, Accounting , Business, Organizational and Technical information to make it extremely useful. For new and existing Oracle clients who have been on the training course and are wondering what next, this book and it's great contents definitely point the way to how everything fits together. There are important practical pointers as to what NOT to do and how your data flows will be. The Rules : The whole objective of this Project is to share your expertise on Oracle Topics and learn from others, Hence those posts that will qualify are: 1. Have to be in one of the following Categories: Training and Certification Unix and Linux Windows General SQL PL/SQL Server Administration and Options Security, Backup and Recovery Oracle Developer Suite and Tools Other Development Tools Oracle Fusion Middleware Metalink General Oracle Apps Technical Oracle Apps E-Business Suite PeopleSoft, Siebel, JD Edwards SAP and Others General Oracle Topics 2. Should not be of one line and should be genuinely putting some valid point across or sharing something of value. 3. At Least 10 New threads needs to be opened in the 50 Posts. 4. And of course, should not be copied or plagiarized. 5. If you win and choose to select your book, it has to be below $50. 6. The book will be awarded by ordering from Amazon.com. If you win and choose to select some other website for faster shipping to your country, do let us know which website to order from (subject to verification) and provide your complete Mailing Address. Myself, Julian and Anne will be the Moderators and reviewers of the Project. All of us including Sameer cannot participate in this Project. We will be regularly posting every user's stats as who has contributed how many posts. The winner will be decided according to these stats and NOT the number of posts visible on the site. The last word from me is that the only objective is to share... to learn so I request everyone to participate even if it's a simple PL/SQL tip you learned, it might save someone hours of work. Let the countdown begin!
