I am facing the below scenario:
    • 3 physical servers have instances that are clustered together using RAC.
    • The instances have different options/pack configurations.
    • At the server level, each server is already licensed for the same options and packs except that 1 server has Advanced Compression, which is running on 1 instance that doesn’t have RAC installed.
    • No other instance have Advanced Compression.
The question is, if I want to make sure that Advanced Compression is covered, is it just the 1 server that has to be licensed, or the other servers are also affected?

    Thanks.

All servers are affected; you can't license one and then expect to use the option on all three.

as far as my knowledge for RAC.... you have to buy database license and options and features which you required, it will cover all instance license as same. because you are running one database but binaries are installed on different server for database HA.

for separate single node database instance, you required separate license for each option and feature which you required.

    Kind Regards,

You license by options and instances in RAC; it IS one database but multiple instances so ONE license doesn't cover all of the nodes. EACH node needs to be licensed.

In other words, the options/packs licensed on all servers in a cluster have to match?

RAC itself a option of Oracle Database for which you already paying to oracle.... like a scenario (Advanced Compression) if you go to oracle for (Advanced Compression) license they will charge you as per your RAC license which you already have... like if you have 4 processor license they will charge you based on 4 processor license for Advanced Compression and it will cover all instance.

You license RAC based on the processors and the number of instances you are running; it is one license cost but it is more than one license as each node must also have a license. If you license RAC for three nodes then add two more you need to pay for those additional two nodes to make it 'legal'; the existing RAC licensing does NOT cover the additional nodes.
