    What is its exact name?

    := this symbol is used to assign values.

    var1:='Jagan';

    means we are assigning Jagan value into Var1 variable.

    So that symbol is used to send right side value into left side variable.

    it is used jut in connectin with :eek:ld and :new, otherwise no, correct?

    No! Any where we can use it with in pl sql block.

    declare
    a varchar2(100);
    begin
    a:='We are assigning this string into "a" variable';
    dbms_output.put_line(a);
    end;

    So here in above example there is no old and :new
