    Hi,

    I need to resize DATA on ASM and give size to FRA. Is it possible?
    Code (Text):
    SQL> select name,free_mb,total_mb from v$asm_diskgroup;

    NAME                              FREE_MB   TOTAL_MB
    ------------------------------ ---------- ----------
    DATA                               553037     685947
    FRA                                    14     165521

    Regards,
    Zainal

    Yes, you can presuming you're not trying to reduce the DATA tablespace below the highwater mark. Of course you won't be able to use that extra FRA space until you change the DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE parameter to reflect the new size.

    You asked if you could, therefore I thought you knew how. You need to drop unused disks from the diskgroup then add those same disks to the FRA diskgroup:

    Code (SQL):

    ALTER diskgroup DATA DROP disk DATA_0007;

    You must wait for the header_status in v$asm_disk to report FORMER and that the disk balance operation has completed before reassigning the dropped disk to a new diskgroup.

    It is always good to ask all pertinent questions when you post such a message so that the answer you receive will provide ALL of the information you require.

    Please read my prior response again as I never said to drop the DATA DISKGROUP, I said to DROP the UNUSED DISKS FROM the DATA DISKGROUP and I provided an example of how to do just that. Of course if you do not know which disks are unused you cannot drop anything from the DATA diskgroup. Why can you not simply add a disk or two to the FRA diskgroup and leave the DATA diskgroup untouched?
