    I have a DB cold backup as of 3 days old. I need to recover it to another location another DB along with the archived generated in source as of today. How do I do that using recover database until cancel?

    You need to tell Orace to ignore the SCNs in the controlfile by using:

    recover database using backup controlfile until cancel

    When that completes you'll need to do this:

    alter database open resetlogs;

    Presuming there are no errors you should then be done.

    Thanks David. I tried that, but didnt go through. My database in the target was an old one. I rewrite that with the new one which was taken on 25th of September. I copied all log files since then from source to target. I was using the same option you adviced, but was getting error about one log file (which was apparently an old one, dont klnow why it was looking for that). It was a cold backup. The restore didnt go through and i openend in resetlogs.

    Can you please advice me the steps considering my scenario please?
    Thank you in advance,
    Peter

    You'll need to have that database in archivelog mode to roll it forward past the cold backup date.
