    Hi,

    Following is the configuration:-

    OS: RHEL 5
    Oracle Version: 11.2.0.1
Configuration: Oracle Dataguard, 1 physical standby, dataguard broker configuration, Active Dataguard feature.

    Clarification required for following:-

Can I have a physical standby database with just standby redo logs and no main redo logs? If yes, then what happens when a role switch takes place. I would be using Active dataguard feature of Oracle 11gR2 Dataguard.

    Best Regards,
    Prashant

Yes. The logs switch roles when the database is no longer a standby.

    Thanks David.

I got some more info on this.

When a role switch takes place and standby is activated as primary database, it is opened with new incarnation (resetlogs) which will physically create online redo logs if not present already.

Correct, which, in essence, switches the roles as the standby logs will no longer exist and standard redo logs take their place.

My apologies for responding in a somewhat confusing manner.
