how to configure oracle 10g in ubuntu

    i have downloaded and installed successfully oracle in ubuntu 10.04 by gdebi installer and a user named "oracle" is automatically created
    but i cant configure oracle.. '/etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure' returned an error "no such file of directory".
    manually i searched in various folders but i cant found it.

    pls help me to configure it

    Please be a little more specific, like what you downloaded, from where, what steps did you perform, where you are getting the error etc.

    am improved from the stage when i posted the above thread,
    now i have installed 10g successfully in my system and also it appears in my applications menu(ubuntu 10.04)
    but now whats the problem is i cant open apex in browser it shows "unable to connect" and so tried via SQL command line when i tried to connect, it showed

    "ERROR:
    ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress"

    then i googled to solve this problem.. i tried the following steps
    SQL> connect /as sysdba
    Connected.
    SQL> shutdown abort
    ORACLE instance shut down.
    SQL> startup nomount
    ORACLE instance started.

    Total System Global Area 146800640 bytes
    Fixed Size 1257668 bytes
    Variable Size 58724156 bytes
    Database Buffers 83886080 bytes
    Redo Buffers 2932736 bytes
    SQL> alter database mount;
    alter database mount
    *
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-00205: error in identifying control file, check alert log for more info

    here after dntknow what to do..help me, where will be the alert log file? and also help me to start database correctly

    hi,
    the link given by u lead to "bad request",anyhow i have already fixed this problem. during the installation i didnt configured oracle that was the problem,reinstallation also doesnt work,then i removed oracle fullly by complete uninstallation through synaptic package manager and then installed again and configuration during installation was worked and now oracle runs fine in my system:hurray
