hi yaznesh, yes you can call external webservices, but you will have to create a custom component which has a service in whose resource file you will need to call the external service. If all this sounds hebrew, you should get yourself the excellent Stellent Book by Bex : http://www.amazon.com/Definitive-Stellent-Content-Server-Development/dp/1590596846

Creating a custom component is easy, you need to login to your UCM server, start the component wizard and click add new component. But you will need further reading if you have never done this before. Btw what is this "external webservice" that you are trying to connect to?

UCM doesn't really help you with calling external web services, but there should be a java library that will help with this. The harder part, in my opinion, will be figuring out the appropriate filter to implement to decide when content is updated. I don't know where to get the list of known filters, but I assume that these are documented somewhere.

Have you written a java program that will call a web service? Have you written any Content Server components?

I don't know how to call external web services from java, but there are articles on how to do it. I found one here: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/XML/WSfromJava.aspx from just a quick Google search on "java call soap web services". What you do actually depends on what kind of service you are calling - not all web services use SOAP (the Content Server, for example, prefers URL parameters and HDA-formatted data).

Sadik, do you have a link to an article on creating a custom component? I've never created one from scratch - I cheat by copying an existing component and modifying it.

Has anyone answered this question? I must update a component that calls a .net webservice from UCM and would like to understand exactly how to do this. It appears that the classes were generated from the axis2 wsdl proxy class generator and these proxy classes were used by the Component wizard to generate/install/build the component in UCM.

I would like to know what is the preferred procedure, step by step, to produce/update this component.

My background is in .net and not java. I have had some UCM training.

Thank you in advance for your help!
