    Hi,

I've heard that a free Oracle database version (that could be a "lite" version or something else) is available

    Is that true ?
Does anyone know more about it ?

    Thanks in advance

Oracle Database is free to download from OTN for personal development use. You just have to accept the OTN License Agreement. However you have to purchase the license for Production environments.

    OTN's license agreement reads

Oracle Database lite is actually oracle's database offering for mobile applications.

What you have probably heard is about the Oracle Database Expresss Edition (XE) which is FREE with the restrictions that it will store up to 4GB of user data, use up to 1GB of memory, and use one CPU on the host machine.

    XE's license agreement says that
If you are looking for free database for a medium enterprise, you can also consider MySQL.

    Hope this helped

Also you can add IBM DB2 Express-C to the list of high end free databases. It's absolutely free and production ready with the only limitation being that it'll use a maximum of 2 GB of RAM and 4 CPU cores only, independently from your hardware.

    cheers! :D
