    Hello,

After reading the Oracle documentation about Dataguard and the two different options there are to install a Standby database, I still don't understand what is the advantage of havind a physical Standby database when you can have a Standby database and you can make some modifications in the Standby database and also you can use it, for example, to do reports while it is applying the redo logs...

    Thanks

Report which version of Oracle you've been reading about, because Data Guard has changed significantly from 9i to 10g to 11g; in 11g you can have a physical standby database open for read-only access and still have managed recovery active. With 10g this is not possible. Your question makes little sense without knowing the version of Oracle in use.
