nmefwmi.exe error with 11g database on Vista

Hello folks, I am a student and trying to learn to use the oracle database. I have a windows vista laptop (sadly) and i installed database 11g from oracle by downloading from their website. It installed properly and there were no issues.

Now when i am trying to connect, i get an error message and the process nmefwmi.exe crashes. It seems strange because i am able to work with the database still. I did some research online and seems some people faced it on another forum but there didn't seem to be any solution for it. some say go and search on metalink but as i am a student i don't have metalink access.

should i really uninstall and install 10g because that seems to be the popular choice?

Re: nmefwmi.exe error with 11g database on Vista

hi, i have personally never installed 11g on Vista (my good luck!) but a quick search on metalink, reveals Note No:745965.1, which says...

+ From the 11.1.0.6 database control home page do the following:

    1. Navigate to Host homepage
    2. Click Metric and Policy Settings
    3. Select "View All metrics" from the drop down box below the text
    "Metric Thresholds"
    4. Find the row "Network Interface Combined Utilization (%)". In this
row, click on the link in the "Collection Schedule" column.
    5. Click "Disable"
    6. Click "Continue"
    7. Click "OK"

Steps to disable Windows Events Log metric if so desired:
    1. Navigate to Host homepage
    2. Click Metric and Policy Settings
    3. Select "View All metrics" from the drop down box below the text
    "Metric Thresholds"
    4. Find the row "System; ;" under "Windows Event Security". In this
row, click on the link in the "Collection Schedule" column.
    5. Click "Disable"
    6. Click "Continue"
    7. Click "OK"

    OR

+ Upgrade the database to 11.1.0.7 version

    Hope this helps...
