Default Automatically applying an updated BOM to all open order lines

OM books a sales order on 01-April-2009 for qty one package that contains shippable physical components. On 05-Apr-2009, the BOM (bill of materials) for the package is revised. The 01-April-2009 sales order has not shipped and still reflects the old BOM instead of the new BOM.

Manual Workaround: OM adds a new line item for the same qty, package part #, price and OM cancels the previously created line item with the old BOM.

Question: how can we have the Oracle system automatically refresh the sales orders to reflect the new BOM? Is there possibly a concurrent job available that would eliminate the need for the manual workaround solution?

    Thanks
    Mohan

Default Re: Automatically applying an updated BOM to all open order lines

    Hi Mohan,

    There is a functional wrkaround.
    1. Change the Process - like only book a order when final BOM is ready. ( Tricky for Manufacturing Organization as BOM changes frequently )

BOM changes not directly changes components in Sales Order. You can write custom program which will automatically refreshes components in Sales Order, but it has its own limitations, you don't want to refresh items in all existing Sales Orders.

Else you can write a program, stick it to the system taking parameters as Sales Orders for which you want to refresh BOM(s).

    Hope the information helps.

    Later.
    ZacK
